When a blind sees eye

Millions of Nepalese are typically suffering from unnecessary blindness and most of are due to the cataract causes which can be surgically treated in gently manner. Eye care is one of the terribly public health challenges in Nepal.

They are from extreme poor family they live in remote part of Nepal (North Dharding, Bajhang, Kanchanpur, Kailali, Humla and Rukum) where poor nutrition and limited access of medication they who are also victim of malnutrition as well as we have been also caring children of those villages with health care, school and food supply.

Most of the blindness is particularly devastating in low to middle income families, Blindness takes an able-bodied person out of the workforce, or a child out of school to lead a parent around by a stick or help from any stranger who they are around often.

Spouses are often required to become full-time caregivers, For the destitute, blindness is often a death sentence where it has a profound impact on the community.

In Nepal most of the blindness are prevalent in low income where malnutrition, inadequate health and poor education services, contaminated water, and a lack of sanitation which is leading to a high incidence of eye and other diseases.

In the least-developed country like Nepal, cataracts are responsible for half of all avoidable blindness. Other causes include glaucoma (15%), corneal opacities (10%), trachoma (6.8%), childhood blindness (5.3%), and onchocerciasis (4%). A simple, low-cost, one-time procedure can restore full sight to patients with cataracts issue and yet these procedures are not available in Nepal.

While many causes of chronic illness require long-term treatment and follow up, cataract issue does not need so.

Cataract surgery is a one time, lowcost procedure yielding dramatic results beside such poor family and local villages.

Most of the villager even buying a pair of glasses is out of their reach, and they are having with uncorrected refractive errors remain as the cause of low vision and blindness.

In Nepal, only the privileged few can afford sight restoring cataract or corrective eye surgery Himalaya Mt.
